Lily Glen Group Camping Area

Lily Glen Horse Camp is a popular horse camp located near Ashland, Oregon! The riding is easy and fun! The campground is located at the edge of a beautiful meadow with a creek running through the middle of it. This area was once used as a cross-country  jumping course. Many of the old jumps are still there. The footing in the meadow is good. You can work your horse, or go for a nice gallop! Or, you can ride around Howard Prairie Lake, which is only across the meadow from the campground.

Most of the riding trails are easy. You may ride anywhere on the north or south side of Dead Indian Memorial Drive, most of which is BLM. This was also once the stage stop between Klamath Falls and Ashland. There used to be a wonderful, big barn on the property that many horse people used - but someone burned it down a few years ago. The horse people in the area built some nice corrals in place of the barn.

Lily Glen Horse Camp is operated by the Jackson County Park Service. There are fees to use the facilities. There are no RV hookups. There is no camp host.

There is a small stream to cross in the summer (larger in early spring). It is easy to cross, but some people do have trouble getting their horses to cross. There are some steep, rocky areas if you ride in the mountains near Howard Prairie Lake.

Mosquitos can be a problem in the early part of the summer, so be sure to have plenty of mosquito repellant.

At an elevation of 4,526 feet, the nights are chilly. Since we live at a lower elevation where the temperatures are warmer at night, we usually blanket our horses at night. This helps protect them from the mosquitoes at night, as well.

You can ride this area without shoes on your horses. If you decide to ride around the lake, there are some rocky areas, so shoes or boots may be necessary - depending on how tough your horse's feet are. We have never had to put the boots on at Lily Glen, and our horses live on soft ground at home.

I recommend Lily Glen Horse Camp for some awesome horseback riding!  It is especially nice for group camps.  If you go in the middle of the week, it usually isn't too crowded, either!

There are 32 corrals in the two group reservation areas, along with 8 campsites. The first-come first-serve camping area is just inside the gate and to the left. There are 8 sites available, most with 2-horse corrals. Also, a wheelchair accessible site is available near the restroom. There are two hand pumps with potable water - but they make you work for your water! We find it easier to take the horses to the creek for water! Each campsite has a fire pit. There is a manure dumpsite near camp, but you need to bring your own wheelbarrow and tools.

The group camping areas are very nice. I personally don't like the campsites that are for the first-come first-serve horse  campers. Each site is right next to the highway, and very close together. There is no privacy if the campground is full.  This campground is heavily used from June through September.

How to find Lily Glen Horse Camp

From White City, go east on Hwy 140. Go approximately 45 miles, and turn south at North Fork Campground Road. Turn right on Dead Indian Road. Lily Glen is about 4 miles on the left. There is a shorter way, but much steeper and windy - Traveling south on 1-5, take the second Ashland exit. Travel east on Dead Indian Memorial Drive. Travel past the turnoff to Howard Prairie Resort, approximately ½-mile. Lily Glen Campground is on the right.
